Line-Item OCR Technology
Most budgeting apps force you to manually type total amounts or crop images endlessly. BudgetOS uses optical character recognition (OCR) trained on global supermarket receipts, restaurant bills, and utility invoices.
When you scan a bill, BudgetOS extracts:
- Merchant & Store Name (e.g. Keells, Cargills, Walmart, Uber Eats)
- Line-Item Breakdown with category assignment (groceries, produce, electronics, tax)
- Subtotals, VAT/Tax line items, and Grand Totals
- Transaction Date & Time
Receipt Scanning on Mobile & WhatsApp
You can scan receipts inside the BudgetOS iOS and Android apps, or send photo attachments directly to FinChat on WhatsApp. Photos are stored securely as encrypted receipt attachments linked to your transactions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I scan crumpled or dimly lit receipts?
Yes. Our OCR model includes contrast enhancement and skew correction to handle crumpled paper receipts and low-light smartphone camera captures.
Can I assign different line items on one receipt to different categories?
Yes. Sub-item categorization allows you to split a single supermarket receipt across Groceries, Personal Care, and Household Supplies.
